The 2016 – 2017 marks the Inaugural Season of the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) consisting of the following original six (6) hockey teams:

DeMatha Catholic

Gonzaga College

Good Council

St. Mary Ryken

St. John’s College

Bishop O’Connell

The WCAC league has been in existence for many years, however, this year the coaches of each of the above schools already in the WCAC, decided to schedule hockey games that would have additional meaning.  The result of this idea was the transformation of meaningless “non-league” games to WCAC league play.

It is important to note that the WCAC division does NOT supersede the Mid Atlantic Prep Hockey League (MAPHL).   As a result of the aforementioned WCAC hockey games, a playoff structure was implemented.  The intention of implementing WCAC league play is to build rivalries as well as to continue to build the integrity of the MAPHL.  It is also productive to play meaningful games one week prior to the MAPHL playoffs.

Each team competing within the WCAC will play each other team twice and the teams are ranked at the conclusion of the regular season.  From those rankings, a playoff structure composed of quarter final, semifinal and championship games were established.  The Interstate Athletic Conference (IAC) and Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) have already implemented a similar structure.  Several of the current MAPHL league teams also participate in the IAC and the MIAA Leagues.
